The 4,000 hectares which make up the les Arcs playground are rich in scenery, flora and fauna. It borders on such protected natural areas as the Hauts de Villaroger Nature Reserve and the Vanoise National Park and it seems essential to look after the good health of its ecosystems and its biodiversity.
• The environment Observatory
In 2012, the ski area set up an Environment Observatory which enables the species which live here to be studied and mapped. Setting up this observatory has enabled significant improvements to be made in our knowledge of the state of the biodiversity and the landscape in the ski area.
It is also fully involved in all the planning stages of any new improvement projects in the area to ensure that these operations are in line with environmental protection. For example, every year re-wooding and planting work is are carried out. This work takes place at a time when it will have the least impact on wildlife.
